The Heart Behind the Stitch
My name is Megan Buhr, and I am the artist and maker behind Northern Designs MN. My journey into the world of textiles began in 2012 with a simple sewing machine and a few YouTube tutorials. What started as a curious hobby—making baby blankets and everyday household items—quickly transformed into a lifelong passion for creating enduring heirlooms.
I believe that every piece of fabric tells a story. Whether it’s a collection of a child's first outfits, a graduate’s favorite t-shirts, or the cherished wardrobe of a loved one who has passed, I am honored to help you preserve those chapters of your life. For me, being able to create a lifelong heirloom is more than just a service; it’s the core of why I do what I do.
The Professional Edge
At Northern Designs, I pride myself on a sharp, sophisticated approach to quilting that ensures your project is built to last for decades.
The secret to a high-quality memory quilt or keepsake lies in the prep work. Unlike many others, I never skip the critical step of correctly interfacing every piece of clothing. While this process is time-consuming and requires extreme precision, it is the "make or break" point for a professional finish. Proper interfacing ensures that knits and jerseys never stretch or lose their form, protecting the integrity of your memories for years to come.
When you work with me, you aren't just getting a product; you are getting a meticulously curated masterpiece. From selecting the perfect design from my library of over 8,000 longarm patterns to choosing between a classic cotton or a luxurious, ultra-soft Minky backing, I handle every detail with a professional eye.
A Legacy of Trust
I understand that sending away your most prized possessions requires an immense amount of trust. I treat your clothing with the same dignity and respect I would want for my own. From the moment your "precious cargo" arrives at my Minnesota studio, I personally track and care for every item as if it were part of my own family's history.
I look forward to hearing your story and helping you preserve it.
