T-Shirt, Jersey & Memory Quilt Pricing

Memory Quilt Northern Designs MN

Investment & Sizing

The base price for a memory quilt includes the labor of preparing the clothing, the layout design, and the professional longarm quilting. Pricing is based on the number of clothing items provided, which determines the final quilt size:

  • Twin Size (9–16 items): $350

  • Full Size (20–28 items): $450

  • Queen Size (30–48 items): $550

  • King Size (50–60 items): $700

Backing Material Options

Because every project is unique, the cost of the backing material is calculated separately based on your personal preference. I offer three high-quality textiles for you to choose from, each at a different price point:

  • Cotton: A classic, breathable choice for a traditional quilt feel.

  • Flannel: A warm, brushed texture that adds extra coziness.

  • Minky: My most popular and highly requested material. It is incredibly soft and provides that "super snuggly" feel that makes a memory quilt so comforting.

Whether you want a lightweight throw or the heaviest, softest blanket possible, I will help you select the backing that best fits your vision and your budget.

Please note that the final dimensions of your quilt will also be influenced by the size of the clothing provided; larger shirts will naturally result in a larger finished quilt, which is helpful to keep in mind if you have a limited number of pieces to work with.

Custom Layouts & Styles

I offer a variety of layouts to suit your personal style, ranging from modern designs with no borders to traditional looks with borders around each individual piece or one large border around the outside. If you prefer a Mosaic Style quilt—where blocks are different sizes and "puzzled" together—an additional design fee ranging from $30 to $100 will apply depending on the size of the project.

The Gold Standard of Care: Stabilizing Your Memories

One of the most critical steps in creating a lasting clothing quilt is stabilizing every piece of fabric. Over time, items like jerseys, t-shirts, and sweatshirts lose their elasticity and begin to stretch. To prevent this, I apply high-quality interfacing to the back of every single piece—including jeans, jackets, and towels. This essential step ensures the fabric remains intact, structured, and durable for years to come.

I feel it is important to share a disclaimer: many makers skip this step to save time or costs, and it is truly heartbreaking to see the distorted, sagging results. Stabilization is the single most important tool in clothing quilt construction. I strongly encourage you not to let anyone create a quilt from your precious clothing if they skip this process.

Because this step is so often overlooked, I have spent a significant amount of time fixing quilts that have begun to pull apart or lose their shape. If you have a cherished quilt that was made without stabilizer and needs to be repaired, please reach out. I would be happy to chat with you about how we can restore and save your heirloom so it can be enjoyed again.

Our Collaborative Process

Once I receive your clothing (which should be freshly washed), I will begin working on the layout. I stay in constant communication with you during this phase, sending photos of the proposed design for your review. This is the time to make any changes to the layout to ensure you love the look. Once I have your final approval, the sewing begins!

After the top is pieced, it is prepped for the longarm machine where the top, batting, and backing are stitched together with the design of your choice. As a fun side note, I am now offering one-of-a-kind custom longarm designs created specifically for your quilt for an additional fee.

Shipping

Shipping Your Project

I am located in Minnesota and am happy to receive your quilt tops, backings, and binding by mail. To ensure your project arrives safely, please follow these guidelines:

  • Protective Packaging: I recommend placing all materials inside a sealed plastic bag or sack before putting them into a sturdy, hard-sided cardboard box. This protects your fabric from moisture or debris during transit.

  • Secure & Label: Ensure your box is securely taped and clearly labeled.

  • Tracking: Please email me your tracking number once the package is sent so I can keep an eye out for its arrival.

  • Confirmation: Once your order arrives, I will send you a confirmation email or text to let you know your items are safely in my hands.

Return Shipping

When your project is complete, I will return it using the same care and professional packaging described above.

  • Carrier: I ship via UPS but will ship using other options upon request.

  • Tracking & Insurance: Priority Mail includes a tracking number and $50 of automatic insurance.

  • Additional Insurance: I highly recommend insuring your valuables against loss or damage while in transit. If you would like me to purchase additional insurance on your behalf, please indicate this on your intake form.

Sales Tax & Fees

  • Minnesota Sales Tax: I am required by the State of Minnesota to collect a 8.53% sales tax on the quilting service portion of your invoice.

  • Applicability: This tax applies to all orders that are picked up in person or shipped to a Minnesota address.

  • Transparency: I aim to keep my billing as clear as possible; your invoice will clearly show the breakdown of the quilting service and the associated tax.

Payment

Once your project is complete, I will send you an invoice for the final balance. I am happy to offer several convenient ways to pay, including PayPal, Venmo, and Zelle. For those who prefer to pay by credit card, I also accept all major cards via Square; please note that a 3% transaction fee will be added to the total to cover processing costs for Square and PayPal.

I truly appreciate timely payments, as they enable me to mail your finished quilt or Memory Item back to you right away. Your project will be safely packaged and shipped as soon as the invoice is settled.

I would love to help you create something special!
